So I Married an Axe Murderer: A man who’s never been able to commit to marriage ultimately meets Miss Right, and then finds out that she’s a infamous axe murderess! Myers is ingratiating and hilarious in a second role as his own contrary Scottish dad however the film by no means switches into high gear. Cameos by such recognizable funny men as Charles Grodin, Steven Wright, Phil Hartman, and Michael Richards appear mainly unnecessary. Mrs. Doubtfire: Warm and gratifying comedy with earnest overtones in reference to a free spirit whose spouse divorces him after fourteen years. He couldn’t bear being split apart from his 3 kids, so he camouflages himself as a dowdy British housekeeper (under an Oscar quality makeup job) and gets himself employed to look after them. Williams is in top form, and director Columbus keeps the tale and characters moderately practical in an effort to drive home a humanistic message. Cast includes Robin Williams, Sally Territory, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Fierstein, Polly Holliday, Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson. (125 minutes, 1993)

A Cry in The Dark: The amazing true tale of Lindy Chamberlain, an Australian female implicated of killing her infant, in spite of her claims that the youngster was taken by a dingo (a wild Australian dog). Author-director Schepisi informs his tale with nearly documentary like actuality, eloquently assaulting the format of trial by story that made Chamberlain and her spouse the most maligned couple in Australia. Streep and Neill are heartbreakingly excellent. Cast includes Meryl Streep, Sam Neill, Bruce Myles, Charles Tingwell, Notch Tate, and Lewis Fitzgerald. (121 minutes, 1988)

The All-American Boy: Jumbled drama in reference to Olympic optimistic Voight’s effort to be a successful boxer; striking locations of northern California, but that’s all. Cast includes Jon Voight, Ned Glass, Anne Archer, and Carol Androsky. (104 minutes, 1989)

Just a Gigolo: Extremely fascinating cast is the best part of this odd melodrama featuring Bowie as a Prussian war vet who floats from job to job in Berlin before ultimately finding his real purpose. Dietrich, in her last film appearance, pops in long enough to sing the title melody. Rome’s vigorous performance gives lift to choppy film. Cast includes David Bowie, Sydne Rome, Kim Novak, David Hemmings, Maria Schell, Curt Jurgens, and Marlene Dietrich. (105 minutes, 1979)
