Just Ask for Diamond: Witty, if infrequently cartoonish, investigator film burlesque, in reference to the baby sibling of a dumbbell detective and the puzzle enclosing a box of candy. Cast includes Susannah York, Patricia Hodge, Roy Kinnear, Michael Medwin, Peter Eyre, Nickolas Grace, Dursley McLinden, Colin Dale, Bill Paterson, Jimmy Nail, and Saeed Jaffrey. (94 minutes, 1984)

The Kingdom: The terrorism story is reinvented as an action film. It is a blood-pumping tale of an elite FBI team that voyages surreptitiously to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to examine a massive explosion at a U.S. living area. Cast includes Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Chris Cooper, Jason Bateman, Ashraf Barhom, Ali Suliman, Jeremy Piven, Danny Huston, Richard Jenkins, Frances Fisher, Anna Deavere Smith, and Tim McGraw. Belle de Jour: Bunuel’s wry and upsetting story of a virginal newlywed who works the night switch in a high-style Parisian brothel, unbeknownst to her spouse. Bunuel’s recipe of stunning topic belies the acute humor of his script (co written with JeanClaude Catriere). Cast includes Catherine Deneuve, Jean Sorel, Michel Piccoli, Genevieve Page, Francisco Rabal, and Pierre Clementi. (100 minutes, 1967)
